We have taken New Zealand Certificate in Youth Work and developed a unique program that takes all of the graduate outcomes for the qualification and delivers them through adventure, recreation and adventure-based methodology. You don't need to be adventurous or have outdoor skills to participate

Who is this for?
This qualification is for people who have an interest in including adventure based, experiential and nature-based activities into the context of their work with youth. This will suit both outdoor instructors and youth workers that want to extend their knowledge, confidence and understanding of using group work, outdoor activities and natural environments to support their outcomes
This program is designed for two different types of people.
Youth workers
people currently working or volunteering in youth work want to develop confidence, capability and understanding of how to add recreation and adventure activities to support the current youth work practice. You will learn about programming, activity selection, risk management, resources that you can use easily, working with other qualified providers.
Outdoor instructors and leaders
people currently working or volunteering is outdoor instructors often want to develop their skills in being able to support youth development. This program will provide you with the confidence capability and knowledge of positive youth development and how to apply this into the adventurous activities
WORKLOAD
You need to commit sufficient time to complete the qualification. This includes going through weekly learning contents and tasks, completing tasks and assignments, self-directed learning (approx. 2-3 hours per week, but this can vary from week to week. Some weeks require more hours and some require less), 1.5hr interactive online class approx. Every 2 weeks, and 3-day residential workshop in Auckland (overnight, this workshop is course requirement).

Course aims
The aim of this programme is to provide the learner with the knowledge and skills to support the development of young people through adventure, recreation, nature and activity-based programmes. This program is designed for people working or volunteering in the youth development sector with an interest in developing activity, recreation and adventure-based approaches to youth development.
The programme benefits the youth work sector by providing youth workers who have the knowledge, skills and attitude to use activity-based programmes with youth
Qualification Purpose
The purpose of this qualification is to provide the youth work sector with people who are equipped with the broad operational and theoretical knowledge, skills and attitude to work with youth.
Graduates will support the social and cultural aspirations of Māori and Pasifika people and demonstrate their commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi through their interactions with young people and their communities and their work.
Graduates will be able to carry out youth work roles under broad guidance and may have some responsibility for the performance of others.
Course Outcomes
This programme will develop youth workers who will understand the fundamentals of adventure, nature and recreation-based programming. Graduates will be able to apply contemporary youth development strategies to lead adventure and recreation-based youth development activities which support the safe psychological and cultural development of young people.
Graduates of this qualification will be able to:
Create and maintain a safe environment when working with young people.

Course Components
To complete the qualification you will complete three courses
CYD401
Adventure-based youth work fundamentals
You will learn about professional practice regarding your own development, impact of colonisation, development and the background to adventure based youth development.
CYD402
Developing youth potential
You will learn how to establish and maintain relationships to support and maintain a safe psychological and cultural environment to support youth.
CYD403
Lead adventure-based youth development activities
You will learn how to plan, prepare, organise, deliver and evaluate an adventure based youth development activity.
Time Commitment
Weekly Tasks - approx. 2-3 hours per week varies from week to week.
Fortnightly Online Class - 1.5 hours approx. every 2 weeks
3-day Residential Workshop in Auckland
ENROLMENT FORM
Based on your school achievement (secondary school study)
40 credits at NCEA Level 2; including 10 literacy credits at NCEA Level 2 and 10 numeracy credits at NCEA Level 1;
Or a recognised equivalent.
Based on study completed after school (tertiary study)
Completed a relevant course at NZQF Level 2;
Or a recognised equivalent.
Based on discretionary entrance
If you don’t meet any of the above options, and you think you have what it takes to complete this programme, you can apply for discretionary entrance. Your application may be accepted if you can demonstrate a good chance of success. Approval of discretionary entrance applications is decided by the relevant manager. If your application is approved, your acceptance into further programmes relies on you demonstrating success in this programme.
The funding that we receive subsidises 'valid domestic enrolments' unfortunately, if you are not New Zealand Australian resident or citizen we are unable to Enroll you in this course
You must provide an original or certified copy of one or more of the following documents:
A New Zealand Citizen
a New Zealand birth certificate; or
a New Zealand passport; or
a New Zealand certificate of citizenship; or
A New Zealand Resident
a) a passport with a current returning residency class visa (a passport with a visa label); or
b) a passport, and letter or email, confirming current returning residency class visa (label-less visa, followed by confirmation with Immigration New Zealand, where appropriate); or
c) a certificate of identity from Immigration New Zealand if the student is a refugee.
An Australian citizen or Australian permanent resident currently residing in New Zealand
a) an Australian birth certificate issued before 20 August 1986; or
b) an Australian passport; or
c) a passport with a current Australian resident return visa
Candidates in the NZ Cert Outdoor Leadership Levels 4,5 and 6 are required in their applications to Provide a logbook that demonstrates they meet the minimum logged hours as necessary for entry.
Candidates in the NZ Cert Youthwork need a group to complete the final assessment
