Welcome to the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Adventurous Journey section, congratulations on signing up and starting the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Hillary Award! Below you will find information on our Bronze training, practice and qualifying journeys. We have designed our events to cater to all levels of experience, including those of you that have never been tramping before.
To make a booking select an event from the calendar and follow the process.
Minimum number of participants for an event to go ahead is 6.
Minimum number of participants to book a private event is 8.
All of our training is active, engaging and hands on. You will gain knowledge and skills over this one day event that will prepare you for your practice journey.
You will learn basic map reading and navigation, how to put up a tent, how to cook safely using a camp cooker, how to pack a tramping pack, and what food, clothing and equipment to take on your practice tramp.
Our training aims to provide you with a good foundation in the following topics:

Duration: 1 day – 9:00am to 3:00pm

An overnight Bronze Adventure trip is suitable as a Bronze Practice or Bronze Qualifying Journey.
Students must have completed their Bronze Training before undertaking their Bronze Practice Journey, and must have completed their Bronze Training and Bronze Practice Journey before undertaking their Bronze Qualifying Journey.
This Bronze Adventure can be either your Bronze Practice or Bronze Qualifying Journey. We will ensure that you have an appropriate experience for the level that you are doing.
The purpose of the Practice Journey is to introduce you to the experience of packing a pack, carrying it to the campsite, preparing the campsite, preparing a meal, sleeping in a tent and tramping back. For many this may be the first experience of this sort. There will be a lot of learning that occurs on the practice tramp!
The Qualifying Journey is an opportunity to demonstrate your skills in tramping, camping, navigation and group management. You will be expected to use all the skills you learned from your Training Day and Practice Journey, and you will have the opportunity to lead the group, make decisions and teach others!
Free transport is provided from our base in Avondale (or from CBD ferry terminal for Rangitoto trips).
